“I should have used you guys….” Ever had someone send you an email with that statement? I did recently which made me realize that I should share this experience with you.
“My discount contractors did a lousy job! Then, I had to pay someone to come in and correct their issues as well!!”
After receiving this email I peeled back the onion and found they had fallen into the trap of using the “low cost service provider” to save money!
What I discovered from this incident was a handyman was hired at discounted rate. The plan was to use a local handyman and save on the repairs and they could help a local small business at the same time, it was an ideal win-win scenario.
Unfortunately for them it did not work out! The work was done by someone that lacked the knowledge to perform the job correctly one top of that he did not have the proper equipment for the task at hand. At the end of the day there is a good chance more money will be spent. It may not be in the form of immediate out of pocket expenses, but maybe lost revenue as a result of one or several of the items below.• Slow Repairs means lost revenue due to down time
• Additional damages due to carelessness or lack of ability
• Work hours and The time of day that the service is provided may be disruptive to the operation of the business
• Higher material cost by buying retail over the counter
• Code infractions
• No permits
• Lack of training for technical jobs
• Are they Licensed, Bonded and Insured
• Do they have the right tools and equipment
Any of these scenarios can cause the “perceived savings” to evaporate very quickly!
In the case from the email the repair was done wrong the first time this caused discomfort to their customer’s and had to be redone costing more down time at the risk of losing repeat customers!
This real life experience demonstrates why professional contractors are a better choice when major repairs are needed.
Most discount contractors end up costing you more in the end!
